Did you know that the best necklines for you will depend on your face shape, neck length and the balance you need to create with your torso and your hips?
A high neckline creates a horizontal influence (Enhancing) and a low, open neckline creates a vertical influence (Minimising).
Cowl necklines can create horizontal or vertical influence depending on where they sit. Also depending on how bulky the fabric is. The more extra fabric, the more volume they add, making your face and neck look shorter. This is not good if you have a short neck.
Like mine in the photo above, it sits high and in a rounded position making my face look shorter. This will also add volume to your torso. In my case this is perfect! As I have a long face and a torso to enhance in order to balance my wide hips.
One thing to consider when wearing thicker fabrics and higher cowl necks is that they look better when wearing your hair up. Also, notice my earrings are small so they are not competing in the small space I have between my ears and the beginning of the extra fabric on my neck.
However, if your face is rounder or square shaped and you don't exactly have a long neck, you want to stick to cowl necklines that are in soft thin fabrics that sit in a "V" creating more of a vertical influence. The same applies if you have a large bust line you want to minimise. Stick to something similar to this one below.
'V' necklines will elongate your neck and torso, 'high rounded' necklines, will shorten your neck and make your shoulders look broader, 'Necklines that are equal depth' to the length of your face are always going to look harmonious, 'Horizontal' necklines will make your torso look wider, 'Vertical' necklines will slim your torso and make you look taller, and 'Circular' necklines will make your bust bigger and your torso wider.
I wore the outfit at the top to see clients. Because it was a cold day I am wearing leggings, boots and a jacket. Sorry, I cut them off in this picture. But for summer days I wear the dress on its own.
