I am a true believer in filling my wardrobe with pieces that are versatile.
Tops that work with different bottoms, accessories that help you dress up and down outfits, items that can be worn in summer as well as winter. And pieces that can be used for different occasions- from the beach to the boardroom. And yes I have a couple of tops that can do this.
A few weeks ago when I was in Dubai, I was going to a soiree with 'Arabian nights" as the theme.
As much as I love playing with clothes and putting outfits together I really had to have a good think about how I was going to pull this one off without looking like I was going to a costume party or having to buy something I was never going to wear again.
There is nothing that adds less value to your wardrobe than those pieces that get worn once and never again…
So what I did on this occasion was to think, ok what can I wear from what I already own to this soiree… nothing! I do not own many flowy dresses or kaftans, it is not exactly my style.
My next step was to do a search on interest for ideas. After a few minutes of looking through I had it. I needed a dress that was flowy but that still felt like me.
So I started my shopping trip with a somewhat clear idea and a great attitude that I was going to find what I was looking for.
And after a short search there it was, this dress. In a colour that I love, I put it on and voila! It was perfect.
Instantly I could see it working with my gold shoes and my Arabian looking necklace. I also remembered I had seen hairpieces around so I went to have a look for one. And found it straight away too.
I ended up feeling very happy with how I looked and the best thing is that I am going to be able to use this dress a lot.
It can even work for an afternoon wedding, or I can dress it down for a bbq at a friend's house with flat shoes.
